Description by the author

This is one of the nicest road bike tours in Istria connecting the Adriatic coast with beautiful Mirna river valley. According to the legend, the valley was inhabited by giants which have built the hilltop towns around it. Varied and dynamic profile of the tour with numerous shorter and longer climbs and descents make it a real treat for all road cycling enthusiasts.

The tour starts in Poreč with mild climb through the vineyards passing Višnjan towards the hinterland. The most beautiful and the most demanding part of the tour starts at the hill above Mirna valley boasting a fantastic view of numerous hills with medieval hilltop towns dominated by beautiful Motovun. After the descent into the valley we reach the climb to Oprtalj, one of the most attractive climbs in Istria specially praised by numerous road cyclists. Grožnjan, the town of Artists is an obligatory spot for a short break, stroll through the ancient streets and taking time to enjoy the spectacular views of Mirna valley. After Grožnjan we descend towards Ponte Porton (it is necessary to ride cautiously as the road can be busy) and continue to another popular climb to Vižinada in length of 6 km. After Vižinada we start a mild and long descent towards the coast through vineyards and Olive groves.
