Routing: Recreational cycling (only paved) - nicest, Recreational cycling - nicest

Thisa is a very hilly ride, There's around 3000 feet (803 metres) of ascent in around 27 miles. Some hills are long, some are very steep (by the standards of Midland England), often on twisting, narrow roads. You will need strong legs, will-power, good brakes, and powerful wrists, as well a energy boosting goodies and soemthing to drink. why i did this route I cannot really remember. Ilam, Grindon, and theb Manifold Valley, are very popular spots - as is Mapleton, especially if you fancy a swim or paddle in the River Dove (you masy need it after this ride). Ohte rplaces on the route are rearely visited, and there is some very pretty scenery. the great gash of Cauldon Quarry and the associate dindustry will not be to everyone's taste, but the Yew Tree Inn, on the ascent near the Quarry is rightly popular. One section, shown on the map as a road is a rough track, down which it is no shae to dismount as the surface is rough, loose, and the gradient wearing on fingers that grip the brake levers. Another major descent and climb, is at the Manifold Valley - with hairpin bends. If you want something a bit easier I'll put up a Sensible Ride in the Ssouth of the Peak District, also from Mapleton (and, no, it won't be flat!).
