Description by the author

Carlisle is a northern English city located just 17 kilometers from the Scottish border. The city has a long history that goes back to the time of the Romans when Carlisle was a settlement along the Hadrian's Wall from where they could defend that wall. Because of its location along the wall, it is nowadays a perfect base for visiting it. the center itself of course also has a lot to offer with attractions such as the Carlisle Castle, the Carlisle Cathedral, the James Steel Monument, ... and a dozen other gems that will definitely make a trip to Carlisle worthwhile!
