Buckingham Palace has been the official residence of the British monarchy since 1837. However, the building dates back to 1703. The palace has no less than 775 rooms, part of which can be visited with a guide. Today, however, we will stick to a walk around the palace and the accompanying public gardens. It is a kind of mini-city within London with a wide driveway that leads straight to the palace. The changing of the guard is a tourist magnet.
Hyde Park, like Regent's Park, is a royal park in London. It is probably the most famous park because concerts and other events are often organized here. At other times it is quiet here, so we take the time to stroll around at our leisure. There are many hiking trails through wooded areas and beautifully landscaped gardens. In the center of the park there is a large lake where you can sail with a boat. Hyde Park lacks the intimacy of Regent's Park. It is above all a large park with a lively atmosphere.
Near Hyde Park is Speakers' Corner. Originally, death row inmates could say their last words here. No one has been hanged here since 1783. The custom of expressing your opinion to the world still exists here. Every Sunday there is a lot of discussion about politics, religion and other world affairs.
The surroundings of Buckingham Palace are fun to explore, especially thanks to the surrounding park. The palace can be perfectly combined with a visit to Hyde Park and mega shop Harrods. The prices here are sky-high, but the store with its thematic rooms is a real eye-catcher.
