Description by the author

The Cynon trail starts at Abercynon and ends in Hirwaun and follows the Old Glamorganshire Canal. Most of the parts are car free (but not all of them!).

This trail goes through an area that played a major role in the industrial revolution. This area was the battleground of a legal wrangle between canal and mine owners - the latter wanting to build railway bridges to replace barges as a quicker way of transporting King Coal and finally winning their day in court in 1851.
