Description by the author

Anyone who occasionally crosses the Ardennes has probably already noticed that there are tanks, mortars and other restored war equipment on display here and there. However, it's only when you start looking specifically that you notice how many of these remains and monuments remind you of the Battle of the Bulge. A useful guideline is the well-constructed and very comprehensive website www.tracesofwar. This site was created in 2002 and has become over the last 15 years a reference as an inventory of monuments, museums and all other places related to the Second World War. This route connects the best roads between some of the most important sites. Bastogne is the logical starting point of this route, because it was around this city that the fiercest battle was fought and it was there that the chances for the Germans, who initially seemed to succeed, turned. Because some of the most interesting places are located beyond national borders, we also color outside the Belgian lines with this route. And so we leave all at once on the winding roads towards Ettelbruck. The pace I can maintain will have been a distant dream for the Americans in the snow and mud, but that didn't stop them from liberating the city on December 25, 1944. The Christmas present was gratefully accepted, and Commander General Patton still receives all the praise of the city. This route is littered with such historical moments.
