With its strategic location on the River Meuse, Huy was already an important trading center in the Middle Ages. The 4 wonders of Huy date from this time, of which 2 still remain: the stained glass window "Li Rondia" and the fountain "Li Bassinia" . The old castle " Li Tchestia" and the bridge "Li Pontia" have disappeared and been replaced by the Huy Fortress and the King Baudouin Bridge respectively.
This walk takes you past the main sights in the center of the city. There is a small free parking lot at the Eglise Saint-Rémy .
We start with the climb to the Fort of Huy , which is worth a visit. Here was the city's first wonder : " Li Tchestia". At the top you get a panoramic view of the bend that the Maas makes here. We descend to the river and arrive at the Collegiate Notre-Dame . Inside are the stained glass windows, the treasury, but most importantly the stained glass window "Li Rondia", the second wonder of the city , worth seeing.
We arrive at the King Baudouin Bridge which replaces the former medieval bridge and third wonder of the city, "Li Pontia" . On the other side of the church you can admire the Bethléem portal , one of the most beautiful in Wallonia. We walk to the Huy prison where resistance fighters committed a spectacular robbery during the Second World War. We now enter the older part of the city with the beautiful miners' monastery, among many other old buildings.
On the Grote Markt, the town hall stands out with its impressive facade. A little further on is wonder number four : the medieval fountain "Li Bassinia". We walk back past some works of art to the Saint-rémy church , the starting point.
Be sure to consult the information about the sights once you are there . They explain what you will see!
