Le Fond des Vaulx, a valley to discover (geoparcfamenneardenne.be)
Le Fond des Vaulx is a small valley of about 15 hectares located five minutes from the city center. The valley is accessible via a long tunnel that runs under the railway line between Liège and Jemelle. Before you enter the tunnel, you will see on your right the stream of Le Fond des Vaulx, which has always nourished the city and powered the local sawmills and mills. This water site is protected against excessive use (e.g., for washing cars) by a decree from the Walloon Region that the municipal administration wants to comply with strictly. Hikers enter the tunnel with a sense of curiosity, and even some anxiety during heavy rainfall, when the water can rise to 20 cm above ground level. On the left side is a raised footpath with a slope so that hikers can pass. Cars can pass as long as they drive slowly and carefully.
This is a relatively short walk from the center of March-en-Famenne and gives a good impression of the natural beauty in this valley.
From the tunnel, you can follow the yellow rectangles.
