Was it the landscape that inspired composer August De Boeck (1865-1937)'s elegant, sometimes dreamy melodies? His home village of Merchtem? Either way, he was a master of tonal art and a beloved village figure. This walk passes buildings and places that played a role in the tone poet's life. Along the way, eleven information signs will you tell his story and unravel the connection to his native village. An obligatory stop: the August De Boeck Museum in the former house of the village's principal.
This walk is offered by Tourism Flemish Brabant and the municipality of Merchtem.
