The kapellekensboom is an ancient lime tree, which, among other things due to its gnarled shape, is a landmark in Herenthout. Originally, the tree was used as a meeting place; there are suspicions that the municipal council of Zelle once met there.
The heart of sports activities in Herenthout is the municipal sports center ’t Kapelleke. On May 26, 1990, Minister Patrick Dewael unveiled the memorial plaque. The sports center derives its name from its location in the green surroundings of 'Kapellekensboom'.
In its reserve at the Bergen, Natuurpunt tries to restore some rye fields to their former glory, successfully! The well-known cornflower blooms beautifully and abundantly every year, as does the very rare bolderik, a carnation with a pink flower. SOURCE: https://www.herenthout.be/
