It was King Leopold II who implemented the policy that the French would be immediately impressed upon entering Belgium . That is why extra attention was paid to the border villages. Pussemange with its cathedral-like church and formerly impressive station building is an example of this.
We start in Laforêt, one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia, and walk through the forests to the sanctuary of Sugny. We then continue walking to the border village of Pussemange . In each village we visit the lavoirs (washing places) that are still well preserved.
If you want to shorten the 23 km walk a bit, you can start at the shelter on rue Saint-Agathe. This saves you 1.5 km there and back, which reduces the walk to 20 km. In Sugny and Pussemange there is the opportunity to enjoy a drink on a terrace.
Starting in Laforêt we first visit the washing place . We leave the village via the beautiful viewpoint of Le Griolou via walk 15 (blue diamond). Just past the shelter we leave this walk and continue to follow the Chemin de Sedan, also the connecting road to walk 44 (red-white-red). Before we arrive at this walk, however, we turn left down into the Bois de la Croix Ginette , past the Fontaine St-Agathe . At the bottom we follow walk 52 (blue rectangle) counterclockwise to the left until we reach Sugny. We pass the Moulin Brulé where there is a picnic area .
When we arrive in Sugny, we first visit the Domaine Marial . The Lourdes Grotto , Holy Stairs, Golgotha and Shrine of Sainte-Thérèse are just some of the sights...
Continue to Sugny past some old drinking troughs , to the church with its war monuments.
We go back and forth along walk 48 ( red block ) to the Lac de Chalaye with its picnic area and wash house.
Back in Sugny we look for the connection to walks 49 ( blue diamond ) and 50 ( green-white-green), which we follow to Pussemange.
In Pussemange, the imposing church , which with its 2 towers gives the impression of a cathedral, is unfortunately not open to visitors. We continue walk 50 ( green-white-green) past the old wash house to Bagimont. We are here on and across the border with France.
In Bagimont we continue to follow walk 50 along a calvaire , until the N935 where we leave the 50. Here we go to the left . We have to follow the N935 almost to the shelter in Laforêt. Where possible we take the parallel forest path along the ruiseau de Membre, but in winter this can be (too) wet so the N935 is a better option.
We descend through the forest to Laforêt where Le pépé Crochet waves towards us.
Be sure to consult the information about the sights once you are there. She explains what you will see.
