This long but tranquil nature exploration tour has many surprises in store. Do not hesitate to make it a two-day trip with an overnight stay in the vicinity of Bernissart, Harchies or Condé-sur-l'Escaut, a friendly French town. You start at the Château de Beloeil. Through the countryside you reach the historic Blaton-Péronnes canal and the larger Nimy-Blaton-Péronnes canal. This will take you to the Scheldt Plains Natural Park and the pilgrimage site of Bon-Secours, where the Black Madonna is still venerated. After a detour via the France, you arrive in Bernissart, once a prosperous mining village. Nowadays, there is a hint of nostalgia and sadness. A visit to the Iguanodon Museum will compensate. Nature lovers will get their money's worth in the marshes of Harchies and the sandy sea of Stambruges. Due to extensive infrastructure work on the canal (a number of bridges have been demolished), the route has been adjusted and does not always pass through the junctions. It offers an extra touch of adventure!
