Starting from Aproz, you will get to know this quaint little village which hosts the annual national cow-fighting final, known as the “combat de reines” to determine the Queen cow of Valais. The start of the climb takes place on a large road through apricot plantations. The view opens towards the opposite side of the valley covered in vineyards, and we can admire the village of Chamoson, the largest wine municipality in Switzerland. After crossing the mountain resort of Nendaz, the road heads in the direction of Siviez on a steady climb that gains altitude quickly. In Siviez, we discover the imposing wall of the Cleuson Dam at the end of the valley. Starting from here the last kilometres take you up a dirt road.
From the Rhone Valley until the Cleuson Dam, you will climb over 1500 metres. The first kilometres rising above Aproz are on a steady slope until the village of Fey. On leaving this small town, there are several hundred metres of particularly steep road before arriving in Nendaz. Once you have crossed the resort, the road climbs along the Printze river, passing near the hamlet of Planchouet. Enjoy the views of Mont Fort and Mont Gelé at the end of the Nendaz valley. Once you have arrived in Siviez, the view of the Cleuson Dam is very impressive. The more adventurous will continue their way on the dirt road, pedalling through the last kilometres to the summit of the dam at more than 2100 metres of altitude.
