Do you enjoy walking through the valley of an old railway line with bridges, tunnels and a fast-flowing river and also visiting one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia?

In September 2023 we adjusted the route, with an extra loop through Crupet and a new route through the woods towards Bauche, instead of on the paved road.

!!! Railway line 128 is still in use and therefore it is extremely dangerous and even forbidden to go on or near the tracks!!!

We parked in a spacious parking lot near Chansin station. It was fortunate that there were several train sets there at that time and a train even passed by. From Chansin we started our walk towards Crupet. Since the route went up, we started quietly. We walked on various paths, roads and past meadows.

In Crupet we turned right to the special cave next to the church of Saint Martin. Crupet is often referred to as one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia. After our visit to Crupet we continued our route towards Bauche. In Bauche, halfway through our walk, we saw the old railway line 128 for the first time. Bauche serves as the terminal station for a tourist train that occasionally runs over the maintained part of railway line 128. The fact that the train cannot continue further becomes clearly visible near the station, because the rails are no longer suitable for train traffic.

Our walk led us further along the valley of the river Le Bocq, regularly crossing the still in use railway line. We walked under railway bridges and past tunnels. We followed the bank of the fast-flowing river and made side trips along the way to the entrance of one of the tunnels (km 10.3) and to a viewpoint on a railway bridge (km 12.0).

The last part of our walk again followed the bank of the fast-flowing river and took us through a wooded area back to the parking lot. There were plenty of photo opportunities along the way and we enjoyed the beautiful viewpoints during this circular walk.
