Around the Abbey of Westmalle

Departure at Café Trappisten (V) towards junction 99. With a chapel to the left of the drive, to the right the Trappist Abbey (1). At junction 99 you walk straight ahead, direction 0 You step past the main entrance of the abbey and walk straight ahead at junction 01, towards 98. Keep following the abbey wall, make a right-left nod at the end and continue to junction 98. Turn left, direction 97. On the right is a half-timbered building. At the end of the drive turn right. At a sign with information about the Molenbos you are at junction 97 and you walk straight ahead, towards 89. You go into the forest and walk past residential care and rehabilitation center De Dennen, formerly sanatorium Lizzy Marsily. Don't worry about side paths and walk along junctions 89 and 87 towards 86. In the Waterstraat you turn left for a while and then right back into the forest. You walk along a rough forest road along a barbed wire fence to junction 86. Continue through Rinkvenlaan, Vijverlaan and Vraagheideweg and turn right at junction 73, direction 66. At the end of the wire termination, turn left and continue to junction 66. Continue along the edge of the forest towards 68. The road is dramatically bad, with many deep puddles. Provide adapted footwear! At junction 68 continue straight ahead and at junction 67 turn right, direction 53. On the left you see the Kleine Vraaghoeve, on the right a meadow. At junction 53 you continue to junction 54 at the Grote Vraaghoeve (2). Step diagonally left into the forest, direction 55. This is also a drowned road and that only improves when you get out of the forest.
On the right you have a beautiful view of the Vraagheide with the tower of the abbey of Our Lady in the distance. of Nazareth. At junction 55, turn right and continue towards 57 on a wide dirt road. Leave the Korhoendreef on the right and continue to junction 57. It now continues towards 58, on a narrow concrete road with the Halfvenheide on the right. The Vaartdijk turns into the Sint-Jobbaan and you step along the Dessel-Schoten canal. At junction 58, turn right into the forest, direction 45. After the forest you step through an open landscape and take the first field road on the left. On the wall of the Trappistine Abbey of Our Lady of the of Nazareth (3) you make a left-right nod and step further along the abbey wall through the Brechtse Heide. The entire heathland has been transformed into an agricultural area, but remains impressive. Take the first lane on the left. At the end you turn right and walk past the Scherpenberghoeve and the Kievitshoeve. Where the road turns right, turn right for the shortening until you reach junction 45. Via junction 48 you rejoin the big tour at junction 42.

For the full tour, turn left and at the end follow the canal to the right until tavern De Goeien Tijd at bridge 11 (4). You are now at junction 47. Turn right and continue 20 m at junction 46, turn left, direction 50. You step around the swing bowl and continue walking along the canal. At junction 50 you continue to follow the canal, direction 08. Just past restaurant Cuvee-hoeve you step into a forest road and walk between the nature reserves Kooldries and Hoofsweer. This is a beautiful area with old boulder pits. At junction 08 go straight ahead and at junction 07 turn right, direction 06. At junction 06 you are at villa Pampas, in which a tavern with a dance hall was located at the end of the last century. Continue straight on to junction 49 and continue towards 42, past heidelust farm, through a grove and impressive open countryside to junction 42. On the right you see the tower of the abbey O.-L.-V. of Nazareth.

Via junctions 64 and 99 you walk to junction 65 on the edge of the forest. Continue straight until junction 36 at Drie Boomkensberg (5), formerly a well-known pilgrimage site against fever.

Walk diagonally left along an undulating path through junction 35 to junction 33. Turn right and then left, direction 3 Get out of the Molenbos and go via junction 31 to junction 30. Turn right and past the Trappist brewery until junction 99. Turn left until you reach café Trappisten.
