Description by the author

The Kampina is a varied nature reserve with a vast heath, pine forests and many fens. Centrally located is the large Kampinase Heide which is adorned by numerous fens such as the Belversven; more sheltered, in the northeast corner of the area, are the Huisvennen and the Zandbergsvennen, which are particularly rich in dragonfly species. Over the heath the call of the curlew sounds. The heath is here and there peaty and has special species such as lavender heath. We also find sand dunes with loose sand where many families with small children picnic.

To the east flows the winding river narrowwater or the small Aa. A beautiful nature reserve with many water birds. In short, a beautiful circular walk in the Kampina with house fens, sand dunes, heathland, winding rivers and beautiful viewpoints.

The walk starts from an easily accessible parking lot. Right at the beginning we pass a resistance monument. Via beautiful avenues and paths we arrive after 1 kilometer at the first viewpoint over several fens. Here are several benches to enjoy the view.

The walk continues through a beautiful nature reserve and at one point we walk between the fens in a somewhat swampy environment. We see small fens left and right and just before the 2km point we approach some sand dunes and walk through loose sand.

The route continues along a larger house and after 500 meters we see on a small hill – pay attention because you can walk past it in no time – a bench with a beautiful viewpoint over the house fens. If you are lucky, the bench is empty and you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Kampina.

The walk continues on beautiful winding paths with beautiful views and at the 3.5km point we stand in front of the eels. After this we slowly walk into the area that is much more wooded. Through this wooded area we continue towards the beautiful narrow winding river smalwater or the small Aa.

We walk about 3.5km along the water and there is a lot to see. At some point, the little Aa turns into the Beerze. In the summer when the grass and weeds are a bit higher maybe a little less but you can occasionally make a side jump to the water's edge.

At the 10km point we bend away from the water for a while but a little later we follow the winding Beerze again. Here we also regularly see a small waterfall or rapid. Eventually we walk through alternating forests and heathland back to the starting point. Here you also regularly spot a wild grazer.
