13. Tiel station - Lienden / Gilbert van Schoonbekepad

Leg 13: Tiel station - Lienden

You start at this part of the Gilbert van Schoonbekepad on the Stationsplein of Tiel. First, take the time to see the city center of Tiel. It is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The path takes you past the many beautiful old buildings, such as the Oud Burger Mannen- en Vrouwenhuis or the Kantonrecht. You also regularly come across Flipje here. Through the Waterpoort you leave the old city and you arrive at the quay along the river Waal. At first glance it does not seem obvious to leave Tiel on the way to the end of the Gilbert van Schoonbekepad in Veenendaal by first crossing to the other side of the Waal, but what you get in return on the other side is a beautiful terrace at 't Veerhuis and a lovely floodplain walk along the river. The Prince Willem Alexander Bridge then takes you back to the other side and then Echteld is reached. Take a look in the park of Castle De Wyenburg and then leave Echteld on the 'Laantje naar Parijs' (yes, it really exists). Then the Betuwe is crossed and you arrive in Lienden. Just before you reach the church, you can first stretch your legs at the beautiful Café 'Het Wapen van Lienden'.

Fastest connection by public transport between start and end point: From bus stop Vogelenzangseweg in Lienden, with bus 44 in 32 min. to Station Tiel.
