Description by the author

The route starts at the parking lot at the bridge over the Ahr in Kreuzberg (Ahr), just below Altenahr.
The route runs counterclockwise and starts with a mile flat for a mile. And then follows the first ascent to Krälingen, the valley of the Sahrbach. A nice climb over very good road surface and with five hairpin bends and not steep. Afterwards you cycle for a while on a plateau before you descend back into the valley of the Sahrbach.

In Kirschahr follows the next ascent, called the forest. This is about 10% for the first kilometer, but flattens out for the other 2 kilometers. You then cycle back over the plateau, to Effelsberg, mostly on side roads. At Scheuerheck, a small part of such an interior road is in less good condition (you can therefore also follow the main road between the forest and the Scheuerheck).
You will also have a view of the large radio telescope of Effelsberg. Then it goes down into the Liersbachtal, please note: this road is in reasonable condition, but is narrow and leads through a dark forest, you have to descend carefully. The ascent away from the Liersbach valley can be compared to a longer climb in South Limburg and leads through beautiful woodland.

You are now cycling on a plateau again, and now for a longer period of time, crossing a stream valley several times with a descent and an ascent (these climbs are often at least a kilometer long). However, cycling from Marthel to Ohlenhard is 100 meters in altitude. Even after crossing the village of Ohlenhard, there is a slightly longer climb towards Lommersdorf. Shortly before Lommersdorf you descend and you walk briefly through the village. Please note: You leave Lommersdorf via a piece of cobblestone road of about 200 meters in length! This is followed by a long gradual descent into the valley of the Ahr. In the Ahr valley you follow the paved cycle path over a former railway bed for approx. 3 km (note: follow the bike signs here, otherwise it is very possible that you take the road to Uedelhoven instead of the cycle path through the Ahr valley, the road to Uedelhoven runs parallel to the cycle path at the beginning (with only a few meters between the two roads)).

Then you climb out of the Ahr valley, into the typical shape of the Aremberg (a former volcano, i.e. with a tapered peak and a flattened part at the top). The ascent is irregular: from Ahrdorf, immediately steep, and towards the village of Dorsel no longer steep, then follows a plateau and a bit of ascent, then a steeper descent and only then the last part of the ascent to the Aremberg.
Then you get a 5-kilometer descent for the bikes into the valley of the Ahr again. On the descent you will reach the village of Eichenbach, where there is a fine restaurant (probably the very first opportunity on this route for a break to drink and eat). You will not stay long in the valley of the Ahr, because from Fuchshofen follows the ascent to the Reifferscheid, perhaps one of the most beautiful climbs in the Ahreifel and also long (6 kilometers). In Reifferscheid the descent seems to follow, but you still have to cross a bump before the actual descent (of 4 km in length) follows back into the valley of the Ahr (to the town of Schuld).

Now the path to the cycle path leads over the former railway line in the Ahr valley, and you even cycle through a preserved railway tunnel. Initially, the road surface is made of asphalt, but consists of only two lanes, but a little later it becomes a sufficiently wide paved bike path. Via Insul you cycle on this cycle path to Liers.

When you arrive in Liers, you can follow this path or you can deviate from the path and follow the cycle path further north. In the latter case, the ascent to the Linder Höhe drops and 270 meters of altitude are lost. The route will therefore be about 7 km shorter. If you continue to follow the route, you will arrive at the climb to Lind: first 5 km flat uphill, then 3 km steeper (about 6 to 8%) with a section of six consecutive hairpin bends.
The descent over the partly steep Linder Höhe (up to 10%) takes you to Brück, and then follow the paved cycle path through the Ahr valley for another three kilometres to Kreuzberg (Ahr). Pay attention to the campsite in the Ahr valley, here sometimes some pedestrians can walk on the cycle path.
