Description by the author

Hiking on dream paths: Only half an hour's drive from Cochem lies Eltz Castle on the Moselle. In 1157 the castle was donated by Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa to the noble Eltz family. Today, after more than 850 years and 33 generations later, it is still family property. This castle was one of the few that was never conquered and the castle has therefore been almost completely preserved. The castle is a typical German knight's castle. Guided tours are offered and there is a restaurant. '

The proposed hiking route is one of the dream trails and is signposted. Hiking along the Moselle means ascent and descent, there are always some differences in altitude to overcome and this is no different with these "dream paths". Sturdy hiking shoes and a little fitness are necessary. You get a lot in return. These are real walks in nature. These trails are best done from April to October, outside of this time it is too muddy. Signposting: Follow the signs "Traumpfade".

Soon after the start of the route at the parish hall of Wierschem, you can enjoy the extensive Moselle plateau. It goes steadily uphill along nature trails. This ascent is rewarded with a beautiful view of the Elzbach valley dug deep into the landscape and the medieval Pyrmont Castle. After a drive through a stately alder forest, you will soon reach the wildly winding Elzbach. A little further on, the road leads to the Moselhöhenweg, which leads you through a floodplain to a small hill.

During a walk along the rugged rocks, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the fairytale castle Eltz, which awaits you directly above a quarry. After this idyllic journey into the Middle Ages, you will once again immerse yourself in the beautiful nature, where you can marvel at the varied river valley of the Elzbach and the graceful forests of crippled oaks. Then you will reach the Ringelsteinmühle, which will make you ponder. After you have relaxed here, a beautiful yet steep climb follows, which rewards you again and again with beautiful views. We continue to the wide Moselle plateau. Beyond the wind hedge of the Tholeisterhaus, the road leads back to the quiet stream valley Kerner Bach and a varied landscape of small forest plots and wide fields. Back in Wierschem, it is worth taking a look at the small St. Anthony's Chapel on the outskirts of the village.
