Description by the author

The Thurntal area in the Villgraten Mountains is a popular walking and hiking area in East Tirol. This circular hike, which begins with a cable car ride from Sillian, leads around the 2,400-metre-high peak and offers fantastic views of the Villgraten Mountains, the Carnic Alps and the Dolomites over the border in Italy. On clear days you will be able to see as far as the Großglockner, the highest mountain in Austria. Hearty food and drink is served at the Almgasthaus Thurntaler Rast and the Panoramarestaurant Gadein at the top of the cable car. We also recommend planning a stop at the beautiful Thurntaler Seen lakes.
Take the six-person cable car from Sillian up to the top. Take trail 10b to the Äußere Hochalm with fantastic views of the Pustertal Valley and the Sextern Dolomites. Trail 10 continues through lush meadows up onto a mountain ridge. Descend to the Hintere Hochalmhütte. Follow trail 10b via the Hofilet Alm to the Thurntaler Rast (food and drink served) and back to the Bergrestaurant Gadein and the top of the lifts.
