Die Gemeinde Borchen liegt auf der Paderborner Hochfläche und damit im südöstlichen Winkel der Westfälischen Bucht, sie hat aber auch einen kleinen Anteil am östlichen Hellwegraum.
Am nordwestlichen Ortsrand des Kernorts mündet die Altenau in die Alme, dort wo die A 33 an Borchen vorbei führt.
